Dead Bird

You find some interesting things in the bike lane. I saw a double edged knife (eg. a dagger) the other day. But i've also come across a seatbelt, tires, a bumper-bar, many a McDonalds container. Once I was riding along a busy road and a truck cut in closer and closer to me, squeezing me into the gutter. A short distance ahead I could see some road kill in the bike lane, a possum or a cat. Anyway, I was trapped there was nothing I could do... the truck squeezed me over and I ended up riding over the poor thing.

I came across this bird the other night on the way home. It was also lying in the bike lane, but I doubt a cyclist put it there. I moved it under a tree. For a few years I've been taking photos of road kill. I find it disturbing that people feel queazy about seeing roo or lizard guts, but they don't feel any concern regarding the murder. Yet on some level I know they care, if I was to bludgeon an animal and kill it most people would be rightly outraged.
